Deuteronomy 30:19 “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! 20 You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” (NLT)
Moses is concluding his final address to his people that he has led for forty years through a wilderness. They have seen God perform mighty miracles; they have experienced rescue; they have experienced disaster and death when they refused to obey God. I can hear Moses’ passion — almost begging them to do the right thing after he is gone. It’s for their own good; it’s for your life!
God, You have given me your Word. My life. You reveal Your will to me and admonish me to choose life. Don’t choose my own way; it will lead to disaster. But You say, even when I choose my own way, that there is a way to return and once again embrace life.
Lord, I just can’t wrap my mind around the depth of Your mercy! I want to choose life. I want to choose You.
