May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us, that your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations. Psalm 67:1,2 ESV
Motives. — an inner urge that moves or prompts a person to action — We all have them. Some noble. Some selfish. Some we would prefer no one else know about.
What motivates me to ask God for His blessing?
Relief?
Rest?
Or increased stamina and resources to bring the gospel to the ends of the earth?
The point is, my motive for asking God for His blessing is not for my comfort and ease, but for His glory, His will
And so I ask for a good night’s rest so I can be a more patient wife and a better help to my children.
I ask for energy to be able to make a meal for not just my family, but also for a neighbor who needs to see that Jesus is more than an arbitrary set of rules.
I ask for focus and a clear head so I can pray for my brothers and sisters in prison and living under persecution.
Yes, it really is not about me. . .
