The heart of the wise makes his speech judicious and adds persuasiveness to his lips. Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body. Proverbs 16:23,24
A worthless man plots evil, and his speech is like a scorching fire. A dishonest man spreads strife, and a whisperer separates close friends. . .Better is a dry morsel with quiet than a house full of feasting with strife. Proverbs 16:27, 28; 17:1
Attitude matters. For good or for ill. And attitude affects behavior. “Just grab the boot straps, buck up and fly right” (is that enough mixed cliches for one morning?) will not bring any lasting change.
I need a HEART of gratitude, in order to behave as a grateful woman.
That’s why I can never get past the gospel. The good news that God would pursue me in my brokenness, Jesus would die to save me, rise again the third day to defeat death, and then would offer the tremendous gift of exchanging my sin for His righteousness. And then, promise the Holy Spirit to actually live in me, so that I can live a life pleasing to the Lord, which is impossible in my own strength.
The amazing grace transforms attitude. Entitlement withers away as gratitude for God’s mercy grows. Pride disappears as I admit my need of a Savior. Discontent is replaced with trust in a God who “knows me best and loves me most.”
The Advocate (or Before the Throne of God Above), by Charite Lees Smith 1863
Before the throne of God above I have a strong and perfect plea.
A great High Priest whose name is Love Who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven on His hands, My name is written on His heart.
I know that while in Heaven He stands No tongue can bid me thence depart.
When Satan tempts me to despair And tells me of the guilt within,
Upward I look and see Him there Who made an end of all my sin.
Because the sinless Savior died My sinful soul is counted free.
For God the just is satisfied To look on Him and pardon me.
Behold Him there the risen Lamb, My perfect spotless righteousness,
The great unchangeable I AM, The King of glory and of grace,
One in Himself I cannot die. My soul is purchased by His blood,
My life is hid with Christ on high, With Christ my Savior and my God!
