I think of it sometimes when I open my Bible — my ESV Hebrew-Greek Key Word Study Bible — which is one of several I have on my shelf, well-marked and precious to me . . .
I am so incredibly privileged to have God’s Word so readily available and easily accessible.
According to UNESCO, in the world today there are about 1 billion non-literate adults. This 1 billion is approximately 26 percent of the world’s adult population. Women make up two-thirds of all non-literates. 98 percent of all non-literates live in developing countries. (from SIL International)
I am so incredibly privileged, as a woman, to have had an education and am able to read and study my Bible, and teach God’s Word to others.
The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times. Psalm 12:6
Just as incredible to me is the fact that God chose to reveal Himself to mankind through His words, and inspire men to write down what God wants us to know about Him, about His working in this world.
God’s Word is a priceless gift. Thank Him that you were born in a place and in a time where you are able to read, and to own a Bible. Pray for those in other places in this world who risk imprisonment and/or death for possessing just a portion of Scripture. Pray for more people to be willing to be sent to those who have never heard the gospel, and who cannot read God’s Word for themselves.
Thank You, God, for Your priceless gift!
