Elisabeth Elliot Gren quoted this phrase many times. Her quote came from a much longer poem written by Amy Carmichael, a missionary to India. I have Elliot’s biography of Carmichael, “A Chance to Die” on my bookshelf.

“The work of God is done on God’s timetable. His answers to our prayers come always in time–His time. His thoughts are far higher than ours, His wisdom past understanding.” ― Elisabeth Elliot, A Chance to Die: The Life and Legacy of Amy Carmichael

But recently I found this poem by Hannah Hurnard (I read Hinds Feet on High Places as a teen).

In Acceptance Lieth Peace

In acceptance lieth peace, O my heart be still;
Let thy restless worries cease and accept His will.
Though this test be not thy choice,
It is His—therefore rejoice.

In His plan there cannot be aught to make thee sad:
If this is His choice for thee, take it and be glad.
Make from it some lovely thing
To the glory of thy King.

Cease from sighs and murmuring, sing His loving grace,
This thing means thy furthering to a wealthy place.
From thy fears He’ll give release,
In acceptance lieth peace. —Hannah Hurnard

“Cease striving, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The LORD of Hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah –Psalm 46:10, 11

Precious Heavenly Father, in acceptance of Your perfect will is my only path to peace. Thank You for loving me so ferociously that you will not allow my convenience or ease to get in the way of Your perfect plan for my best and Your glory. You are truly my everything. Amen
