Psalm 23:1-6 ESV –
1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.
3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Almighty God, my Father,
What a declaration of comfort! The Lord, the only God, is my shepherd.
What a declaration of presence — the Lord IS my shepherd; right now. You are always here. You will never forsake me–You will be with me in the dark waters of death and suffering; in the frightening places of persecution and distress. But You are also ever present in times of joy, and peace, and quiet. You. Are. Here.
And what a declaration of belonging — The Lord is MY Shepherd. I am Yours. I am Your child. I belong.
And what a declaration of purpose — The Lord is my SHEPHERD. You lead and guide me. You have a purpose for me. My life is not random or meaningless. Even if I feel invisible and unimportant, it’s only because I do not yet understand how my life fits into Your purpose.
Thank You for Your restoration and revival. Your Word gives me strength for the next moment. Your steadfast love gives me peace. Even Your rod and staff of correction give me the safety of boundaries. Thank You for loving me enough to correct me for my good.
Lord, You are coming back again! You have prepared a place for me in heaven, and You will bring me to Your heavenly home one day. I don’t need to know when — I am assured that it will come to pass. You have promised that Your goodness and Your mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in Your house forever.
I love You, my God and my Father,
amen
Please remember to pray for our brothers and sisters in Kazakhstan. It is difficult for them to even meet and fellowship. Their Bibles are confiscated. They are beaten and imprisoned. Pray that they will feel the constant presence of their Shepherd.
