Psalm 4:2-3 ESV – 2 O men, how long shall my honor be turned into shame? How long will you love vain words and seek after lies? Selah 3 But know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him.
O Father,
How long? It’s such a common cry from Your children. We don’t know what the future holds. There is so much that we don’t know. But, oh, how incredible, how merciful that we can know that You have chosen Your children; that You hear when we cry out to You. You cause the sun to rise and to set EVERY DAY. You put the rainbow in the sky to remind us of Your promise. Think of it — You are the Sovereign of the universe, and You make a promise to Your creation, creatures not entitled to any promises from You!
Because You have revealed Yourself in Your Word, “how long?” is less important. I belong to You. You are my God. Psalm 4:7-8 ESV – 7 You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound. 8 In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.
