Plea for Grace March 8, 2022

Hebrews 13:5 ESV – 5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

James 3:13-18 ESV – 13 Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. 15 This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. 18 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

Lord, envy and discontent are so destructive. It is out of Your mercy that You allow us to participate in Your work here on earth. You don’t need us for anything, but we are desperate for You for our every breath. I want the fruit of wisdom and contentment. Elisabeth Elliot said, “This job has been given to me to do. Therefore, it is a gift. Therefore, it is a privilege. Therefore, it is an offering I may make to God. Therefore, it is to be done gladly, if it is done for Him. Here, not somewhere else, I may learn God’s way. In this job, not in some other, God looks for faithfulness.”

Lord, keep my eyes fixed on You. Keep me content with what You have given me, and not waste the precious time You have given me wanting what others have or wishing I could do what others do . . .

  1. Wisdom from above! What a treasure! To think how easily it is squandered on bitterness and jealously, on boasting and falsehood.
The jewels in that treasure box of wisdom: purity, peace, gentleness, being open to reason, mercy, impartiality and sincerity. Each priceless on its own, but being bundled together create true wisdom.
Lord, I feel such a fool when I see how much is offered me and how little I’ve availed myself of it. Help me continue to seek wisdom and practiced it.

    1. and to think of what assignment God gives is a gift, and then I would look at this generous God and actually say, “nah I don’t want that; I want what she has . . .” oh how sinful our hearts are!

I want to know what you think!
