Proverbs 17:3, 10, 14, 27 ESV - 3 The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, and the LORD tests hearts. ... 10 A rebuke goes deeper into a man of understanding than a hundred blows into a fool. ... 14 The beginning of strife is like letting out water, so quit before the quarrel breaks out. ... 27 Whoever restrains his words has knowledge, and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding.
Lord,
I can guess and surmise but I do not truly know what is in another’s heart. Only You know. If my heart is so deceitful that I am often misled, how can I think to know another’s heart?! I want to be that humble person of understanding, who can listen to a rebuke, and discern what is true and what I need to hear despite “tone” or despite the attitude of the person. Oh, Father, forgive me for my “wanting to be right”-ness . . .once words are spoken they cannot be erased. Forgiveness does not mean forgetting . . .Lord, You are a God of steadfast love and faithfulness. You never lie. You always speak truth. You are not fickle. You do not fly off the handle or have “PMS days”. . .Help me to have self-control to submit my will and my words and my actions to Your Spirit. You are my Savior, You are my King.

Restrained words. . . My lack of restraint appalls me sometimes. And the need to “be right” is overwhelming. Lord, hold your hand over my mouth. Hello Mrs to speak your heart, and not my reactions.
