Psalm 15:1-5 ESV - 1 O LORD, who shall sojourn in your tent? Who shall dwell on your holy hill? 2 He who walks blamelessly and does what is right and speaks truth in his heart; 3 who does not slander with his tongue and does no evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a reproach against his friend; 4 in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but who honors those who fear the LORD; who swears to his own hurt and does not change; 5 who does not put out his money at interest and does not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.
Father in Heaven, this is my prayer not only for me, but for my family members who know You, for my sisters and brothers in Christ. Oh, that we would take Your word to heart and determine by Your grace to obey.
I want to say what I mean and mean what I say. I must be EXTREMELY careful with sarcasm and “joking around” — what is my real intent? am I guilty of slander? am I taking up a reproach (getting angry or bitter at someone for something they did to someone else, not to me) against my neighbor? do I frequently say “but what I meant to say was . . .” when confronted with something I said? am I trying to make myself seem more righteous — or more victimized — than what is true?
Do I really honor those who fear the Lord, and despise the vile person’s behavior, or am I attracted to the latest gossip, the social media “gotcha” piece, the movies and series that glamorize sinful, vile behavior?
Am I wise with my money? Am I generous? Am I willing to defend the right even if it will cost me to do so?
Lord, You are always just. You are always right. You are always truthful. I can trust You. You have given me Your word, Your trustworthy, right and true word. You are God. You “make the rules.” I embrace Your Sovereign will. I am Your child.
