Psalm 23:1-6 ESV - 1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Jehovah, the self-existent, eternal God, the covenant God who always keeps his promises and never lies but always acts in righteousness and holiness . . .this God is my shepherd. He does not “outsource” me but personally cares for me. He gives me rest, He leads me where I should go, He restores and encourages me, He shows me the right way to live — all according to His Word.
He will never leave me. Even if I must walk through dark and scary times, these times have a purpose and God will never leave me to fend for myself. He gives me good, godly boundaries to keep me from sin; He blesses me with so much more than I deserve.
And if all these temporal blessings are not more than enough, God has an eternal, heavenly home for me –with Him forever. What an amazing Savior!
