Plea for Grace September 21, 2022

Psa 119:65-68, 71-72, 75 ESV -
65 You have dealt well with your servant, O LORD, according to your word.
66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in your commandments.
67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word.
68 You are good and do good; teach me your statutes. ...
71 It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes.
72 The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces. ...
75 I know, O LORD, that your rules are righteous, and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me.

Fact is fact. Truth is Truth. It does not matter how you feel. We do not listen to our feelings. We believe the truth of God’s word.

Eric Ludy

There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn’t true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.

Soren Kierkegaard

The psalmist reminds himself of God’s dealings in the past. God is faithful, was faithful, will be faithful . . .an important reminder when it’s a “not-so-good” day . . .

A few thoughts on these verses–

When having a tough day, remind yourself of who God is and what He has done in the past;

We need God to teach us good judgment and knowledge. Left to ourselves we will choose foolishness;

We need to be shown (sometimes in dramatic ways, but not always) that we are not enough in and of ourselves. We cannot be our own god. That has been tried, and has failed every time;

God is good. God does good. How I feel at the moment does not change truth;

Perspective — the truth of God’s Word is valuable beyond our understanding or appreciation. The mercy and grace of having God’s Word in our language and at our disposal is a privilege that so many do not have and have not had;

God is righteous. He always does what is right. God is good. He always acts in my best interest. God is faithful. He always keeps His word;
