James 1:26-27 ESV - 26 If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. James 3:2 ESV - 2 For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body. James 2:26 ESV - 26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.
The life of a true Christ-follower is not a pick and choose do I want to be a studious theology expert or do I want to be boots-on-the-ground minister of mercy . . .
Psalm 119:4-8 ESV - 4 You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently. 5 Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes! 6 Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments. 7 I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules. 8 I will keep your statutes; do not utterly forsake me!
Father,
I want to learn Your ways and be a faithful servant, ready to do whatever You ask. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, help me to bridle my tongue to speak words of healing and encouragement, and strengthen me to serve You however Your ask. Lord, I humble myself to be Your servant, and I don’t want my agenda but Yours. Keep me hungry to study and know Your Word. Your Word is my life and my hope.
Keep me hungry for Your word. . . Amen
